What's a Domain Name?

A Domain Name is the part of an email address to the right of the @ symbol, for example:
jsleber@creativeconsulting.com   - the Domain Name is "creativeconsulting.com."

It is also the part of a web address after the "www.," for example:
www.creativeconsulting.com  - the Domain Name is "creativeconsulting.com."

A Domain is space on a computer's hard drive which has been set aside and associated with a specific web address.  This address is accessible via the Internet using a web browser.  It may or may not contain a web site.

Think of it as buying land.   When you buy land you have set aside a location for yourself.  You may or may not build a house, that's up to you.  You can use it just for storage if you please, or nothing at all.   Either way, you are assigned an address so that people can find you and mail can reach you.  There are fees connected with buying the land, and there are expenses as long as you own it.  Same thing, but on the Internet it's really cheap and there's so much more you can do!

Why would you want your own Domain Name?

If you own a company and would like to maintain a website on the Internet, you would want your own Domain Name so that your customers and prospective customers can find out about your company online.  Though you can establish a website under someone else's Domain, it's nice to use your own company name because people will remember it easier, and often people will look for you online by assuming your web address is your company name.

Another reason for having your own Domain Name is so that your email address will be jsleber@creativeconsulting.com.  You can give each of your employees (and friends and family) their own email addresses on your Domain.   This is nice from a prestige point of view, but the real advantage is that no matter which provider you use, your email address will never change.  When you're using someone else's Domain, your email address changes every time you change providers.   Many people put up with lousy providers (like AOL) because they know if they change, their email address will change too.  Not any more, if you have your own Domain Name!

Note:  Even if you're not planning a website now, you can still register a Domain Name.  This way the name will be protected and available whenever you're ready.

How do I get my own Domain Name?

Choosing a Domain Name:
Easy. Click here to register (www.yourcompanyname.com): or Call or   We can tell your right over the phone if the name you want is available.
Note - You can't do this yourself by entering a web address using your browser.  It's entirely possible to enter a web address and have your browser tell you there is no site.  This may mean that the Domain is available, but it may also mean that the Domain is not available and the owner of the Domain hasn't posted a website.

Registering a Domain Name:  Once we find you a Domain Name, we register it for you.  This is a procedure that most providers charge $50 - $100 or more to do for you!  We charge nothing.

Setting up your hosting account:  After you've been registered and the Domain Name is yours, we will notify you.  Then we will setup your hosting account.  There is NO setup fee!  Now you have a Domain Name, you've got your account setup, and you're ready to post your website.  You can design one yourself, or you can hire a designer to create one for you or we can refer you to one.

Monthly Fee:  The price for monthly hosting of your Domain Name account depends on what you do with your website.  We offer the following options:
- $10.00/mo - One page that YOU create of any size with any content, supports MS FrontPage, includes email addresses.
- $25.00/mo - Full site with email, FrontPage, support, and all the bells and whistles.
