Nicky Marone is an international
lecturer, author, workshop leader, and authority on personal achievement and women's
issues. She holds an M.A. in educational psychology. Nicky is the creator of the
Girls Empowerment Program for the YWCA of Boulder, Colorado, and is on the Advisory Board
to the Colorado State University Institute for Women and Leadership.
A native Coloradan,* Nicky spent the
first ten years of her professional life entertaining then troops, that is, she was a
junior high school English teacher. From there, she went on educating all levels from high
school to college level and even adult education. "kids are the best," she says.
"Even when they hate school, they do it enthusiastically."
After eleven years as an educator,
during which time she founded a country-wide pilot program for gifted kids, free-lanced as
a writer/journalist, developed programs on facilitating creativity, researched women in
non-traditional jobs for the Dept. of Social Services, developed educational software for
the Denver Research Institute, and bummed around Europe during her summer vacations, she
suddenly got the idea for a book. Her life as a risk-taker was born. She quit her safe,
secure job to enter life in that rarified atmosphere of the Realm of Wild Possibilities,
and began work on her first book, HOW TO FATHER A SUCCESSFUL DAUGHTER.
She reaches her audience with warmth and
humor, but never forgets why they are there, not only to be entertained, but to learn.
Keeping her two goals in sight, educating and entertaining, she presents the latest in
substantive research and then sprinkles the hard facts with hilarious anecdotes, personal
insights, stories of inspiration, and, most importantly, experiential exercises that keep
her audiences participating and internalizing the information presented.
"I enjoy getting the laughs,"
she says, "but I'm not just doing stand up. Everyone needs to leave with something
useful they can apply to their everyday life, otherwise I haven't served them."
Currently Nicky is working on a
screenplay and living quietly in the mountain community of Boulder, Colorado with a highly
opinionated cockapoo named Max, and dreaming of her next big risk-- trekking the
Himalayas.
*Actually, Nicky was born
in Hollywood while her mother was on vacation. Why an expectant mother would go on
vacation just when she was about to deliver remains a mystery, but Nicky thinks it's
because she was born to be a star.
